Albert and Laurin Bellg

The Albert and Laurin Bellg Collection began in the 1970’s when the Bellg family met Lionel through a mutual friend in Elk Lake, Ontario.  Their admiration of his unique work, so expressive of the northern Ontario landscape and the deeper mysteries of life and spirit, led them to bring his art into their home.

Over the last 50 years, the Bellgs have enjoyed a long friendship with Lionel, as well as many enjoyable meals and conversations around the table where he creates his art, which doubles as a dining table when he has friends visiting.

The Bellgs have assembled a treasured collection of Venne’s work that includes early works, drawings and paintings, mixed media on paper, tapestry and sculpture.  They have centred their collection around pieces with a strong sense of composition and the dramatic use of contrast and colour.
